How many writers do you represent? We try to hold it to 20.
What is your percentage? It varies.
How much promotion do you do for your clients? How much do you expect them to do? We take our clients’ work out to producers and financers in an attempt to sell or collaborate on the work in order to get it produced. We do this as much as opportunity allows us, and we welcome any research or suggestions our client might come up with to assist us.
What do you look for in the writers you choose to represent? What should they look for when trying to choose an agent? We look for unbridled enthusiasm, patience, and willingness to learn. A writer should be looking for the exact same qualities in their agent!
What type of material are you looking for? Action, Family Animation.
How long are the terms of signing on with you? Indefinite
Are you looking for interns? Yes, we’re almost always accepting applications for our internship position. It consists primarily of reading and coverage notes for the dozens of scripts and manuscripts we receive daily that we want to consider for representation or production. Other duties include industry research and the possibility of in-office duties if the intern is local.
Do you only represent screenwriters, or do you rep other types of writers? We represent primarily screenwriters. We also consider manuscripts for publishing with our imprint Story Merchant Books. And on a very select basis, we also represent authors to the New York publishers if their work is viable for the tough market.
Do you represent other types of talent? (Directors, Actors, etc.) No, but as an independent production company we frequently work and collaborate with an array of writers, producers, directors, coordinators, etc.
Have you had success at pitching events before? Yes, we’ve signed several clients after meeting them at events like this.
Do you have any GAPF success stories you can share with us from previous years? No, not sure we’ve attended before.
Is there any advice you would like to offer the writers who are pitching you? Start with the exciting high-concept premise first. Don’t start with the details!!
